Welcome to Irish Sport Horse Agent
Importing and producing quality horses and ponies.
Irish Sport Horse Agent is based at Penhill Farm in Salperton, near Cheltenham and run by Joanne Holder and Bernie Wharfe. We travel regularly to Ireland to personally select horses for temperament and conformation. We have long-established relationships with proven sources in Ireland, and acquires many of his horses direct from farmers and private owners, rather than through the auction sales.
Penhill Farm has an excellent range of facilities to trial any horse.
We source Irish bred horses for Eventing, Show Jumping, Hunting and Dressage and offer a full export and after sales service. Horses and Ponies of all grades are also taken to be competed and sold on behalf of clients.
We make multiple trips to Ireland throughout the year and welcome any clients that wish to join us for a professional opinion on any horse or pony.
Please contact us with your requirements and come for a viewing in a relaxed, friendly and professional yard. We have superb on-site trial facilities with an outdoor rubber arena, show jumps, great hacking and x/c course to suit all abilities.
We welcome instructors and advise clients to have horses and ponies vetted prior to purchase.
The satisfaction of our clients is of paramount importance to us, and we provide ourselves on our impeccable reputation.
Terms of Business
Descriptions: All of our horses on the team are carefully described by our trained staff who work with them on a daily basis and represent their opinion of their behaviour and experience to date.
A member of staff will ride the horse for the potential purchaser and once they are happy that the horse is suited to them we welcome you to ride the horse without obligation to the purchase.
Vettings: You are strongly advised to have an independent veterinary exam before purchase.
Deposit: If you wish to reserve a horse (which means we won’t sell him to anyone else), a deposit of £200 CASH is required. We have been forced to introduce this as a result of the many people who put in “firm” offers but then change their minds weeks later, resulting in lost time and money. The reserve deposit is refundable if the horse fails a vet inspection. PLEASE NOTE: a deposit is valid for ONE WEEK ONLY. We have new buyers looking for horses at all times, and we cannot hold horses longer than a week.
Part exchanges: We occasionally do part exchanges, but only in cases where the cash portion is 50% or more of the price.
Contracts: Every horse is sold under contract. The horse is sold as seen and once successfully passed a veterinary inspection we have no obligation to take the horse back, however it is not in our interest to have unhappy clients we therefore always endeavor to advise clients on the horse that matches there requirements from the off set to the final sale.
Once a horse passes its vet’s exam, we regard the horse as sold, and we have no legal obligation to take it back. However, we do not want a customer to have a horse that doesn’t suit them, so we will always try to exchange an unsuitable horse for one of equivalent value. The horse must be returned within one month of the date of sale. No refunds are given.
